3 Zodiac Signs Who Deserve Rest This Advent

Advent originates from the Latin word adventus, meaning “arrival.” Sometimes referred to as the “season of waiting,” it begins four Sundays before Christmas and marks the time period before Christmastide, which is celebrated from December 24 until Epiphany on January 5.

The liturgical calendar corresponds remarkably well with the astrological calendar, since the early Christians chose the time around the winter solstice to symbolize the birth of their Messiah. In recent years, a growing number of people have begun incorporating aspects from both calendars into their spiritual practice, reflecting the collective desire to return to traditional slow living and to indulge in ritualistic observance of the changing seasons.

Advent is always a time of rest, encouraging us to collectively settle into the rhythms of the season. Shorter days, barren trees, and the silence of the first snowfall may stir up feelings of melancholy, but Advent traditions, such as lighting candles, arranging wreaths, and hanging holiday greenery in your home, enable us to channel those emotions in positive ways.

It is always darkest before the dawn, and this is the perfect time of year to reflect on how fortunate we are to live in a cyclical universe, one in which change is always a certainty. Darkness and light, death and resurrection, sorrow and joy—all of these are beautifully reflected in our natural world.

Advent begins on the first of December this year, the same day as the new moon at 9° Sagittarius. While everyone should use the four weeks following this lunar event as an opportunity to reflect and prepare, the following three rising signs would benefit the most from an Advent ritual in the final weeks of 2024.

Virgo.

With Sagittarius ruling your fourth house, you probably already feel the instinctual pull to stay at home, spend more time with family, and rest during the Advent season. This year, your domestic life is magnified even more than usual, with potential difficulties arising as you integrate your closest partnerships into your family. Expect there to be friction between your family of origin and the one you’re building for yourself. Take care of yourself and surround yourself with supportive loved ones.

Sagittarius.

This time of year might be your favorite, with Sagittarius ruling your first house and blessing you with lots of favorable attention, but this year there is a lot expected of you: not only around the house as you prepare for the holidays, but from your family, who have been holding you to impossible standards. Rather than feeling sorry for yourself for what you haven’t managed to do, this Advent you are being called to celebrate your accomplishments over the past year and give yourself some time to relax. Cultivate a slower-paced existence. You’ll find it is much more rewarding.

Pisces.

This is typically the busiest time of year for you, with Sagittarius ruling your tenth house, and this time around you can expect more responsibility placed squarely on your shoulders. Before you panic and feel overwhelmed, consider how you can make time during your day to slow down and express gratitude for what your work enables you to do: live comfortably, in safety and security that some can only dream of. Busyness leads to productivity, which leads, inevitably, to abundance and prosperity. Reframe your thoughts.
