5 Concrete Signs A Long-Distance Relationship Won’t Work For You

When you love someone, youโ€™ll do anything to be with them. It wonโ€™t matter if the situation is inconvenient because you are willing to put in the effort. However, long-distance relationships arenโ€™t for everyone. Here are some signs that youโ€™re going to have a tough time in a long-distance relationship:

Your love language is physical touch or quality time.

If you want your person to be with you every hour of the day, then you might struggle in a long-distance relationship. Texting them and Facetiming them might not be enough to keep you satisfied because you wonโ€™t get to hold their hand and hug them close. You wonโ€™t get to sit on opposite sides of the couch while watching Netflix together or go grocery shopping together. There are going to be miles and miles separating you, stopping you from doing all the things youโ€™ve been daydreaming about doing with them.

Youโ€™re impatient and inflexible.

Long-distance relationships require patience because youโ€™re going to have to wait a while to see them in person. You canโ€™t grow frustrated with how many weeks (or months) youโ€™ve spent apart. You have to appreciate whatever time you get to spend together, even if itโ€™s over the phone, and patiently wait for things to change. These relationships also require flexibility because youโ€™re going to have to rearrange your schedule to make things work โ€“ especially if thereโ€™s a time difference. You might have to take their calls at weird hours of the night or wake up early to text them.

You have trust issues.

If you get nervous when your partner goes out without you, then long-distance is going to be tough for you. After all, you canโ€™t keep an eye on your partner. You canโ€™t know for sure whether they are hooking up with other people or keeping in contact with their ex. You have to trust that they arenโ€™t sneaking around behind your back while youโ€™re miles away. You have to trust that they would never hurt you. If youโ€™re naturally suspicious and need to keep a close eye on your partner to feel comfortable, then long-distance isnโ€™t going to work for you.

You arenโ€™t great with texting or talking over the phone.

If youโ€™re in a long-distance relationship,ย  youโ€™re going to spend a lot of time texting and talking over the phone. If thatโ€™s not your style, then itโ€™s going to be hard to keep in touch with your person. Itโ€™s going to be hard to feel connected to them. Seeing each other every few weeks is nice, but itโ€™s not enough. You need to be there for them whenever they need you. You need to show up.

You donโ€™t want to put too much effort into a relationship right now.

Long-distance relationships can be fun โ€“ but theyโ€™re a lot of work. Some days are going to be more difficult than others. You might be jealous of the couples you know who get to see each other every single day. You might be annoyed by the distance between you. You might be mad that the world is making it so hard for you to be together. But if this person is worth it, the effort will be, too.
