6 Unhealthy Excuses For Staying With Someone Wrong For You

Because you have history together.

You’re allowed to leave at any time. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been with this person for three months, three years, or three decades. If you aren’t happy in the relationship, you’re allowed to leave. You don’t owe them your loyalty, simply because they’ve been through a lot with you. You can appreciate how big a role they’ve played in your past without wanting to involve them in your future.

Because you feel like they’d be lost without you.

You can’t stay with someone out of pity. It’s not your responsibility to take care of them. They’ve lived without you before and they would figure out how to do it again. Even though it’s sweet that you care so much about their well-being, they’re not better off in a relationship that you secretly want to end. They’d be happier if you gave them a chance to find someone who can love them fully, who actually wants to stay.

Because you’re worried you would never find love again.

You’ve found love before. You can do it again. Even if you feel like this person is the only one who will ever love you, you’re going to prove yourself wrong soon. There are plenty of people who will see the beauty within you. Even if you’re alone for a while, it’s better to be single than to remain in a relationship that isn’t fulfilling you.

Because you don’t want to deal with change.

Breakups are never easy, especially when your lives are overlapping in so many ways. You might have to find a new apartment, a new bar to hang out at, even a new group of friends. But if you stay with this person when you want to leave, you’re only delaying the inevitable. You’re going to have to deal with all of these things eventually. You might as well do it now and get it over with. The sooner you do, the sooner you’ll be able to start your new life.

Because you want the perks of being in a relationship.

You like having someone to cuddle at night, someone to talk to when you get home from work, someone to help you with the chores and their half of the rent. You don’t want to be living on your own again, but if you enjoy the concept of dating the wrong person this much, imagine how happy you would be with the right person. Remember, you should be with someone because you love them, not because it’s convenient to keep them around.

Because your family, friends, or children would be disappointed.

You can’t live for other people. You need to do what’s best for yourself because at the end of the day, the only person you can control is yourself. Besides, if your loved ones genuinely care about you, they want you to be happy. Your well-being matters more than your relationship status. Although they might worry about you, that doesn’t mean they’re disappointed in you or wish you made a different decision. It simply means they care.
