7 Pep Talks For Anyone Who Is Starting 2022 Single (And Isn’t Thrilled About It)

You’re allowed to be upset that you’re single.

You’re allowed to listen to love songs and watch sappy movies and daydream about how badly you want that for yourself. Being a romantic doesn’t make you any less independent than the rest of the world. You can be strong and self-sufficient – and still want a perfect love story. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad about wanting to find your person. You’re allowed to dream of love.

However, you don’t need another person to complete you.

A relationship isn’t a magical cure to unhappiness. Another person isn’t going to fill in your missing pieces. Whether you stay single or find the perfect person for you, you still need to put effort into self-care. You still need to think about what would make you happy. Whether you’re in a relationship or not, you need to treat yourself like a priority. Remember, you could be absolutely miserable in a relationship, and you could be happier than you’ve ever been alone.

This year doesn’t have to be a repeat of the rest.

You’re in control of your actions. You get to choose how you spend your days. Never forget that you have the agency to walk up to someone and start a conversation. Or download a new dating app. Or ask someone cute if they want to meet you for coffee. The worst thing that could happen is they say no. And really, that’s a blessing in disguise because then you get to move onto someone else who actually sees the best in you.

The single life can be better than you’ve ever imagined.

Even if hope to settle down sometime in the future, try to enjoy your single life for the moment and have some real fun. Travel with friends. Pursue your passions. Give yourself some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Do whatever the hell you want because you don’t need a relationship to start living.

Your past has nothing to do with your future.

You can’t let the bad things that happened to you in the past stop you from loving with your whole heart in the future. Just because you’ve gotten hurt before doesn’t mean it’s going to happen again. Next time, the relationship could end up lasting forever. The next person could end up treating you right.

There’s no age limit on love.

You’re not too old to find love. Maybe your friends have discovered it earlier, but their journeys have nothing to do with yours. Everyone moves at their own pace. You could find your person at any time. You’re not behind at all.

You are capable of being loved fully and completely.

Don’t let your single status convince you that no one will ever love you. You have friends who love the crap out of you. They think you’re hilarious and intelligent and fun to hang around. Don’t run back to someone who treated you poorly because you’re worried no one will ever love the real you. You are worthy of being loved right.
