7 Signs You Might Be A Mystic
A mystic is someone who has a direct experience and connection to spirituality. These experiences are that of a union with The One: the Universe, God, Mother Earth. With these experiences, Mystics then develops a natural understanding of everything going on in the Universe and how every action is controlled by a Greater Power. Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu, and Rumi are some famous mystics.
Mysticism is subjective and can vary among individuals. Not everyone can be a mystic. Here are some signs that you might be a mystic, or at the very least, have a connection to your spiritual path:
You question existence and are in search of the truth.
Mystics are often on a quest for truth. Why am I here? Why are we all here? What is the meaning of life?
While mystics respect and understand the fact that they don’t know everything and will probably never truly know everything, they still feel deeply curious about life and its meaning. They’re incredibly contemplative and spend a lot of time in meditation or prayer trying to find an understanding of existence. They have heightened senses and feel called to create change for the greater good. However, despite that, they will always feel a bit lost and will never truly comprehend the truth and meaning of life.
You have experienced transcendental states.
Mystics may have experienced visions, moments of ecstasy, or other altered states of consciousness that allowed them to be more in touch with a higher reality. These experiences and states could have been a Spiritual Awakening (profound healing after a major life-changing event or traumatic experience) and/or a Dark Night of the Soul (an existential crisis).
You are incredibly intuitive and sensitive.
Mystics rely on their instincts. If they feel sensitive towards something or someone, they will listen to their gut feeling because they know it’s a message from the Universe in some way. Their intuition is strong and they trust it more than most people do. They are also incredibly sensitive and empathetic towards others, feeling deeply connected to the suffering and the joy of all beings. They feel everything intensely. Mystics have a connection to the energy around them, whether that’s energy from other people or spiritual forces.
You have a deep sense of connection to everyone and everything.
Mystics can be ordinary people who do ordinary things for a living, but still have a deep sense of connection. They feel a relationship with the world in which we live and feel unity with the Universe. They often explore the concept of non-duality in that in the grand scheme of things, we share a sense of identity with the entire Universe.
For example, think of that one optical illusion with the candlestick faces. At first, you might see the candlestick, or maybe you see the faces looking at each other. But no matter which one you see first, you’re still looking at something that is one and the same.
Day and night, no difference. The sun is the moon: an amalgam.
Rumi, The Elusive Ones
You believe that love is everything.
Mystics express deep love and devotion for everyone and everything: Higher Power, humanity, the Universe. They believe that love is everything and flows through each one of us. Love is the source of life.
You are humble and open-minded.
Mystics are humble and open-minded about what they know, what they don’t know, and how there is still more to learn and understand about the Universe, spirituality, and life. They believe there is a purpose behind every action of the Universe and they accept that they might not know that purpose now, but one day they will. Despite not knowing everything, they still trust in the Universe and their connection to it. They trust and embrace their journey of understanding and learning, not preaching.
