7 Signs Your Heart Is Begging You To Leave Them

If you donโ€™t want to be with them, then break up with them. Itโ€™s that simple, but for some reason, our hearts love to complicate things. If youโ€™ve been confused about whether leaving is really going to make you happier, here are a few signs that itโ€™s the right thing to do โ€“ for yourself and for them:

You feel more comfortable when they arenโ€™t in the room. Itโ€™s natural to want space in a relationship. You canโ€™t be together every second of every day โ€“ but the time you spend together should bring you joy. If youโ€™re counting down the seconds until theyโ€™re gone, and dreading how much longer you have on your own until they walk back in the room, something is wrong. Youโ€™re not where youโ€™re supposed to be.

You feel like youโ€™re slowly losing pieces of yourself. Your person shouldnโ€™t be holding you back. They shouldnโ€™t be discouraging you from following your dreams, hanging out with your friends, or engaging in your favorite hobbies. If you feel like you canโ€™t be your true self around them, like they are anchoring you in place, then you shouldnโ€™t be with them. The right person will support you, not suffocate you.

You care more about losing their benefits than losing them as a person. You can imagine a life without them, but youโ€™re sticking around because you donโ€™t want to lose your relationship status or your apartment or your means of paying the other half of the rent. Even though life might be trickier to navigate on your own, you canโ€™t stay with someone because of the things they provide. You should only stay for them.

Youโ€™ve been tempted to pursue other people. Crushes are a natural part of being human, but if youโ€™re spending every waking moment daydreaming about someone else, thatโ€™s a problem. Your partner deserves your full heart, your full attention, your full trust. If you canโ€™t give that to them, then you should let them go. Donโ€™t lead them on when your heart is straying.

You donโ€™t like the person you are when youโ€™re with them. Sometimes, certain relationships bring out the worst in people. It doesnโ€™t mean that anyone is bad. It simply means they are bad together. If you arenโ€™t happy with the person that youโ€™ve turned into during this relationship, then move on. Grow. And find someone who fits you better.

Youโ€™re tired of fighting about the same old things. Youโ€™re sick of having the same conversations, falling into the same patterns, and watching history repeat itself. If it seems like your relationship has become stagnant, and nothing is changing despite how badly you want it to, then you shouldnโ€™t be together anymore.

You daydreaming about breaking up a lot. If this isnโ€™t the first time youโ€™ve considered leaving, if you daydreaming about breaking up more often than you daydream about spending time with this person, then thereโ€™s a reason youโ€™re feeling this way. If you want to go, donโ€™t force yourself to stay. You are allowed to follow your heart out the door.
