The Best Relationship Of Your Life Won’t Be Perfect

The best relationship of your life won’t be like the ones you see in the movies in which every fight, every miscommunication, and every careless mistake will be resolved in 90 minutes or less.

Instead, the best relationship of your life will challenge you. It will push you to do better, to learn, and to grow. It will take compromise and building trust and a whole lot of fucking up and an endless amount of grace and forgiveness.

Because there are going to be boring days together and bad days at work that put you in a bad mood at home. Dishes are going to be left in the sink for longer than you’d like. There will be times you both go to go to bed pissed off and wake up equally as annoyed. Misunderstandings will be inevitable and so will shortcomings.

There will even be instances when you question if you’re with the right person at all. But then your answer arrives in the form of a long, comforting hug after that shitty day at the office. There will be resolution from the arguing, even if it did take more than an hour-and-a-half to figure out. There will also be laughing fits and looks of pure understanding and faith. It’s in these moments that you remember why you fell in love with them in the first place. And it’s these things that make all of the hard stuff worth it.

The best relationship of your life won’t be perfect, but it will be real. And that’s enough if you allow it to be.
