11 Concrete Signs It’s An Almost Relationship, Not A Forever One
They are inconsistent when it comes to answering texts. Even though you always text back minutes after they send a message, they never do the same. Sometimes, they’ll keep you waiting for weeks before acknowledging your existence again. Or they won’t text back at all.
They freely flirt with other people in front of you. Some people will do this to make you jealous. Others will do it because they feel like their flirting is harmless. They aren’t looking for a serious relationship with you or anybody else. They don’t realize their actions could be hurting you – or they don’t care.
They never follow through on plans. They always talk about how badly they want to take you out for dinner or a movie, but they either cancel plans at the last second or avoid setting plans in the first place. With them, the timing is always wrong.
They act weird about labels. They don’t want to ruin the friendship or take things too quickly by putting a label on what you two mean to each other. They might admit to having feelings for you, but they will refuse to commit to you.
They comment on cute pictures, but constantly ignore your texts. If they’re only interested in talking to you after being reminded of how beautiful you are, then they aren’t serious about you. They like your looks more than they like the real you.
They never give you straight answers about their relationship status. Maybe they’re already seeing someone else and don’t want you to know. Or maybe they’re worried you’ll try to date them if they admit they’re single. Either way, they wouldn’t dodge such a simple subject if they wanted to date you, too.
They can go weeks without talking to you. You can’t fault someone for having a busy life, but you’re never going to date if they’re unable to make time for you. You can’t be in a relationship while never speaking. If they can’t squeeze you into their schedule (or are unwilling to try) then they’ll stay an almost.
They keep personal details to themselves. Even though you talk all the time, the conversations are surface level. They never tell you anything meaningful about their past or their dreams for the future. They avoid opening up too much, so really, you don’t know them as well as you want.
They avoid bringing you around family. They have no problem inviting you out with their friends, but they keep you far away from their parents and grandparents. They don’t want you meeting the family because it would make your relationship feel way too serious.
Your hangouts only happen once in a blue moon. If they only take you out once every few months, they might be trying hard to keep you interested without committing to you fully. Unless you’re both incredibly busy (or live far away), then you deserve more than a date every six weeks. You deserve someone consistent.
You’re the only one who puts in effort. A relationship requires two people who are willing to put in effort. If you’re the only one sending the first text and planning meetups, then they’re probably an almost. Even if they do want to date you, you deserve better.
