In This New Year, I Hope You Stop Being Afraid Of Letting Go

In this new year, I hope you stop being afraid of letting go. I hope you learn how to let go more than once, how to keep letting go of the same people who drain you and strip you out of your joy and inner peace. I hope you stop being crippled by your own thoughts and emotions. I hope you learn how to let go of the people you can’t forgive and how to let go of the apologies, the explanations, and the closures you didn’t get.

Letting go is not a one-time thing. It’s not something you do once then forget about it, it’s something you constantly have to do whether you like it or not because letting go holds the key to your freedom and it holds the key to your healing. Letting go doesn’t mean you’re giving up, it just means that you’re changing directions, trusting in something bigger, and having faith that somehow your path will lead you to what your heart truly deserves.

So in this new year, I hope you learn how to let go over and over again until you feel light again, until you feel happy again, and until you feel like yourself again. I hope you learn how to let go of the pain that’s connected to the people around you. I hope you learn how to stop expecting anything from them if you can’t completely cut them out of your life. I hope you learn how to let go of your own demons that lie to you and tell you to tolerate less or allow people to make you feel like you’re not valued. I hope you let go of those who made you feel like you’re not worth their time or their love.

In this new year, I hope you let go of all the narratives and the scenarios in your head that bring you down or scare you or make you act in foolish ways just to prove a point. I hope you let go of all the red flags that feel like home to you because they’re not, you just got used to them and they feel familiar. I hope you stop giving people the green light to hurt you or abuse your trust or your love. I hope you let go of your own insecurities, the ones that convince you that you don’t deserve any better because it can always get better and you deserve better.

In this new year, I hope you stop being afraid of letting go and I hope you learn how to let go more than once and as many times as you need to so you can truly heal, so you can experience a new reality, so you can have a different year and I hope you don’t feel guilty when you do because letting go may feel hard at first but it’s liberating. In this new year, I hope you find your way to the things that will hold on to you just as much as you would hold on to them.
