Make 2022 the Year of Self Love

We’ve all heard the term “self love” but not everyone fully understands just how important it is. The Oxford Dictionary’s definition of self love is, “regard for one’s own well-being and happiness.” Now that 2022 has arrived and we are (hopefully) putting all the insanity of the last few years behind us, why not focus more on yourself and create some self love routines for the new year?

Here are a few great (and easy) things you can do to ramp up your self love.

Self Love Ideas That Can Change Your Life

Start each day with some positive affirmations. Write them down on a piece of paper or just say them out loud. Create a bulletin board and post your favorite ones. Need help finding affirmations? Google is your friend.

Make it a point to move your body daily. Go for a walk, take an exercise class, or do some squats or lunges around the house. Like dancing? Turn some music on and dance around the house while you clean. Just get moving in a fun way.

Take notice of the relationships that are negative and aren’t making you happy. End any toxic relationships that you can, or limit the time you spend with people who make you feel down.

Schedule in a few hours a week to do what you love. Love scrolling on TikTok while relaxing on the couch? Schedule in an hour at the end of the day to do just that. Enjoy painting? Set aside a few hours on the weekend to create a new masterpiece. Whatever you love doing, be sure to make it a priority any chance you get. If your schedule is super hectic, be sure to schedule in time to focus on doing something you love.

Before you start or end your day, think about the things you are most grateful for. Make a list, say them outloud or just think about all the gratitude you hold in your heart. Feeling true gratitude is a great way to change your mindset and to find even more things to be grateful for.

Try meditating at least once or twice a week. It’s not easy for everyone but the more you do it the easier it gets. Even just five to ten minutes a day can make a difference. Guided meditations are usually a great way to get started. You can find some great ones on YouTube.

Heal any past traumas you are holding onto. Read a self help book, start therapy, write in a journal, or find a Facebook group with like minded people to help you process any past trauma and heal it.

Forgive yourself for any past issues you may be holding onto. Realize you are human and your mistakes are life lessons, and you’ll feel a weight lifted off of you. Mistakes mean you are trying, so learn from any mistakes and move forward with a clear head.

Make it a point to have at least one date night or friends night out a month. Let loose, laugh, and enjoy the people in your life that make you happiest.

Find a new hobby that you’ll love. Try new things alone or with friends. Make a list of all the things you would like to try and tackle that list throughout the year. Who knows, you may find something you really love.

Make yourself a priority – physically, mentally and spiritually – this year. Do things you love, heal from the past, and manifest an amazing future!
