The One Thing to Write Down and Release Before the September 22nd Equinox, Based on Your Birth Month
The Autumn Equinox has long represented a seasonal threshold: a point between what has grown and what must now be released. This year, use September 22 as a reason to put one thing down on paper that you do not want to keep carrying into the final months of 2026. Write it exactly as it comes to you. Read it once. Then tear the paper up, safely burn it, or simply throw it away. The ritual itself does not have to be complicated. The point is to name what has been taking up too much space in your life and consciously decide that it does not get to come with you into the next season.
January
Write down: “I release the belief that I am behind.”
You have spent enough time measuring your life against timelines that were never designed for you. The job you thought you would have by now, the relationship you expected to be in, the amount of money you assumed you would have saved, or the version of yourself you thought you would have become can make everything you have built feel smaller than it is. Before the Equinox, release the imaginary deadline. Your life does not become less meaningful because it took a route you could not have predicted.
February
Write down: “I release the need to keep being who people expect me to be.”
You are allowed to become unfamiliar to people who only know an older version of you. You can change your mind about what you want, stop enjoying something you once loved, become interested in a completely different life, or disappoint someone who benefited from you staying the same. Before September 22, release the responsibility of remaining recognizable. You are still meeting yourself too.
March
Write down: “I release the people I keep hoping will become different.”
Hope becomes exhausting when it asks you to ignore what someone has repeatedly shown you. You can love a person and still accept that they cannot give you the relationship you need. You can understand why someone behaves the way they do without volunteering to keep being hurt by it. Before the Equinox, release the future version of them you have been waiting for. Let people be who they are, and let that information help you decide where they belong in your life.
April
Write down: “I release the fight I no longer need to win.”
You know how to keep going long after most people would have given up, but persistence is only useful when the destination still matters. An old argument, rivalry, resentment, or need to prove somebody wrong may be taking energy from a life that has already moved beyond it. Before September 22, ask yourself what would happen if you simply stopped fighting. You may discover that peace feels better than finally being proven right.
May
Write down: “I release the life I thought I was supposed to want.”
Security matters to you, but familiarity and happiness are not always the same thing. A plan can make perfect sense on paper and still stop feeling right once you are living inside it. Before the Equinox, release the picture you have been trying to force yourself back into. You are allowed to want something different now, even if you worked incredibly hard to get what you once wanted.
June
Write down: “I release the conversation I keep replaying.”
You have already imagined the better response. You have rewritten what you should have said, wondered what they really meant, and created endings the conversation never actually had. None of that changes what happened. Before September 22, release your need to find the perfect sentence that would have made the outcome different. Whatever you wish you had said then, you can honor through the choices you make now.
July
Write down: “I release the guilt I feel for choosing myself.”
Caring for people comes naturally to you, which can make boundaries feel cruel even when they are necessary. You notice when someone is disappointed. You know when saying no makes another person’s life harder. But keeping everyone comfortable cannot continue to require making yourself uncomfortable. Before the Equinox, release the idea that protecting your own peace is an act of selfishness. You are a person you are responsible for caring for too.
August
Write down: “I release the need to be understood by everyone.”
Some decisions will make perfect sense only to the person living your life: you. You do not need to turn every choice into a persuasive argument or wait for someone else’s approval before trusting what you already know. Before September 22, release the exhausting work of explaining yourself to people committed to misunderstanding you. A decision does not become wrong simply because somebody else would have made a different one.
September
Write down: “I release the pressure to get everything right.”
You have spent enough of this year trying to anticipate every outcome before taking the first step. Preparation can protect you, but perfectionism can keep you standing still while waiting for certainty that life cannot provide. Before the Equinox, release the expectation that you should know exactly how everything will turn out. You are allowed to learn while living it.
October
Write down: “I release the responsibility of keeping every relationship intact.”
You can spend so much energy trying to preserve harmony that you forget to ask whether a relationship is still good for you. Some connections survive because both people continue choosing them. Others survive because one person keeps compensating for everything the other refuses to do. Before September 22, release your responsibility for holding together what requires two people to maintain. Let reciprocity reveal what is actually meant to remain.
November
Write down: “I release what happened from deciding what happens next.”
The past gave you information, but it does not deserve complete authority over your future. Someone betraying you once does not mean everyone will. One devastating ending does not mean every good thing is temporary. Before the Equinox, release the instinct to make tomorrow pay for what yesterday did to you. You can protect yourself without expecting every new chapter to repeat the old one.
December
Write down: “I release the fear that I missed my chance.”
You have not exhausted every beautiful possibility your life has to offer. You have not met everyone you will love, visited every place that will matter to you, discovered every dream you will have, or experienced every version of happiness available to you. Before September 22, release the belief that the best opportunity, relationship, adventure, or era had to happen already. Your life still contains things you do not know enough to look forward to yet.
