The Twelve Days Of Zodiac Affirmations
Even if you were raised in a mainline Protestant church, you might be unfamiliar with the origins of the Twelve Days of Christmas song, which we all seemed to learn through cultural osmosis during our childhoods. The song may be performed in pageants and school talent shows around the world, but its whimsical narrative featuring partridges and pear trees doesn’t actually tell us much about the religious tradition that inspired it.
The liturgical calendar is separated into seasons, much like the astrological calendar. Modern Christians, just like their early counterparts, celebrate the birth of Christ during the liturgical season of Christmastide, which begins on December 24 and ends on January 5, a day known as Epiphany.
Around 567 BCE, the Christian church began formally celebrating what we now know as the twelve days of Christmas. It involved nearly two weeks of feasting, rejoicing, and spending time with loved ones.
It goes without saying that in our modern society, the liminal space between Christmas and New Year’s has lost some of its original magic. Rather than continuing the Christmas celebrations into the new calendar year, we are rushed back to work and pressured to set resolutions we often fail to keep.
This Christmastide, consider prolonging the joy and ecstasy a little longer—in a society bent on materialism, simple joy is a radical act. Even if you can’t take the entire twelve days off from your responsibilities, you can still incorporate some of the ancient spiritual traditions to ensure you feel more balanced moving into the new year.
As Christmastide unfolds during the heart of Capricorn season, each rising sign should pay close attention to the house in their natal chart which is ruled by the sea-goat.
