This Is Your Reminder That Taking Care Of Yourself Is The Best Way To Care For Others

Taking care of yourself is the most unselfish thing you can do. Taking care of yourself is an act of love to yourself and, by extension, others. When you learn to soothe your needs, give yourself what you want, and regulate your emotions, you show up for your life with grace.

Please know that you are not doing anything wrong by taking care of yourself. You are not self-absorbed, mean, or self-centered. Most likely, you have the most giving, tender heart, which is why you need this reminder. You’ve been made to feel guilty for taking care of your needs by people who are capable of taking care of themselves but refuse to. They rely on you to do their healing work.

No more. Your healing work is first yours and yours alone. You cannot give what you do not have to offer. This is your reminder that taking care of yourself is the best way to care for others.

Doing the most doesn’t mean you’re doing what’s best. Taking time to rest is the most productive, progressive thing you can do. In fact, rest is a must. During physical work, your muscles create little tears under pressure. During rest, your body helps the tissue heal and grow, creating stronger muscles.

Every other aspect of your life is no different. Sorting through emotions, dealing with mental stressors of life, and living in constant fear of what’s next takes massive amounts of energy and work. You need to rest, heal and grow to regain strength.

Please remember that you deserve to be taken care of too—your needs matter. Take time to enjoy nature, sit in the quiet, watch your favorite TV show, put your phone away, close your eyes, and for a moment, suspend time. The next time you show up for the day, you will be the calmest, giving, more compassionate version of yourself because you have taken care of your needs.

That’s how you serve even more than before. It’s time to release the guilt and recognize that taking care of your health and mental well-being is the most unselfish thing you can do. This is your reminder that taking care of yourself is the best way to care for others.
