Your Current Situation Is By No Means An Indication Of Your Future

Your current situation is by no means an indication of your future. Change is at your fingertips.

I know it’s hard to hold on to hope when you’re struggling to understand the chaos of life. You feel like you have no one in your corner. It seems impossible to find people who care. I know it’s hard to hold on to your expectations and desires when you can’t see a way forward. You feel like life as you know it is over.

Your life isn’t over. You’re stuck in a concept called end of history illusion, which says we underestimate the amount of future self-change we can achieve. We’re only done changing when we stop believing in our capacity for change.

We tell ourselves that the person we are today is the person we’re going to be forever. As a result, we can’t possibly see a way out of our current rut.

We underestimate the amount of effort and perseverance that change involves. It’s the work of a lifetime. Don’t evaluate your life by only where you are now. Look at the past, present, and future versions of you. Look at where you came from, revel in where you are, and look ahead to where you want to be.

Ask yourself, am I the same person today as I was 10 years ago? We’re constantly evolving, and so is the world around us, not in leaps and bounds, but by almost invisible increments. There is evidence. Think of when your nails outgrow a perfectly curated manicure. Think of when you get a haircut, then inevitably need another as your hair lengthens.

Likewise, your environment is constantly pushing you to expand. Your perspective determines which way you grow. Changing the way we view ourselves in our lives changes our future.

You are not a victim. You are a voyager, navigating your way through the ups and downs of life. Lift up your head. You don’t need to see the complete vision. You don’t need to know exactly how you’ll get there. You have a deep sense of knowing that a prominent future is waiting for you, and that’s part of the frustration, isn’t it? Everyone else is making it right now, but you. You face one obstacle after another until you scream, “ I’m done.”

Your current situation is by no means an indication of your future. Your future isn’t solely composed of dreams and circumstances beyond your control. It’s built on your character. It’s built on how you process the problems of today.

You’re not finished unless you decide to be. Here are some reminders:

1. Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. – Winston Churchill

2. I can’t change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination. -Jimmy Dean

3. We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us. – Joseph Campbell

4. For every reason it’s not possible, there are hundreds of people who have faced the same circumstances and succeeded. – Jack Canfield

You have every right to feel discouraged, defeated, or numb. But feelings aren’t final. We live in a world where we tell ourselves that if we feel something, it must be true. Feelings are temporary, action is what gives emotions momentum.

You have a life worth living right now. You don’t need a big epiphany. Your life will continue despite this temporary setback. You have opportunities yet to be claimed. You have amazing relationships yet to be made. You have new ways of earning income to be harnessed. You have hope waiting for you on the other side.

Short-term setbacks are not an indication of your worth. You aren’t finished. Your current situation is by no means an indication of your future. We are only done changing when we give up on ourselves. Don’t give up.
