10 Lessons ‘Redeeming Love’ Taught Us About Faith And Healing
I never read the 1991 publication of Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, but after seeing the movie this past weekend I, as well as every woman, need to.
This film is so much more than a timeless love story. This film is about the truth and detail in the abuse women face. What women have overcome, and what women have had to endure. This film is about the honesty and vulnerability in accepting your past and choosing to prevail in the face of all obstacles. This film is about believing in your strength, in your fight, in a love and faith powerful enough to heal your brokenness.
Here are the things I learned from the film Redeeming Love:
1. There is no amount of brokenness that love with faith cannot heal.
2. A history of darkness does not mean you cannot have a future filled with light.
3. There is bravery and redemption through prayer.
4. Self-resilience can allow you to prevail
5. Healing is not one-size-fits-all.
6. Never lose your fight.
7. Love yourself despite your imperfections, sins, and past.
8. The Lord’s power is working for and within you, no matter what you come from.
9. A love built from faith can be powerful and unconditional.
10. There is always a choice, there is always a path to redemption
Angel’s story is powerful in so many ways that women around the world can relate to it in some way or another. The power of psychological, physical, and emotional abuse is monumental and not talked about nearly enough. It’s a battle women back then faced, and it’s a battle we as women to this day face. My hope is that women who have ever endured any form of abuse will find they relate to the strength, honesty, vulnerability, and reality of Angel’s character in this film. My hope is that women, no matter who you are or what you’ve had to endure, can find hope and the courage to give themselves grace through all we’ve overcome.
We have one life—we have a choice. A choice to accept, to grieve, to heal, and to prevail.
