11 Habits That’ll Help You Get Your Life Back Together
“Getting real about excuses. An excuse can, by definition, never be more than an excuse. An excuse will never get you to the goal. At some point, you have to ask yourself if you actually intend to do what you say. If not, fine. Wipe the slate clean. If, on the other hand, you decide something is important, you have to shift from pointing out problems, to figuring out solutions.” — CoulterPatton
“Get the fuck away from toxic family members. They may be related to you, but that is no reason to put up with their shit. Family is not the most important thing. You, your mental, emotional, physical and financial stability are the most important things!” — [deleted]
“Managing your priorities. So many people spend so much time on things that are bottom-priorities and neglect the stuff they really care about because it is too hard. Just make it happen. Rearrange your entire life. So many people hate the way their lives are going and then put up an insane amount of resistance to rearranging it a bit. Think: if I lived out every week like I lived this past one, what will my life be like in 10 years? Odds are, it’s not pretty. How many times have you told yourself, you will start working out next month, you will start to write that novel once you reach X, Y, then Z milestone? The time is long past due. Most people also have a massive amount of bullshit that does not help them that they can cut out of their life. How many TV shows do you keep up with that you don’t even really like? Are you seriously still watching The Walking Dead when you have FINITE time on this earth? How many social events do you don’t really want to go to but you show up to please people you don’t care about who won’t actually miss you if you’re not there? How many toxic relatives do you put up with? Do you stay at a shitty job when you could probably get a better one more conducive to your life goals and long term happiness? Do you stuff crappy food into your body because it is the easiest form of pleasure even though you know it’s not good for you in the long run, and you don’t even love the taste anymore? Once you drop one useless thing, the freedom becomes addictive.” — Oberon_Swanson
“The habit that changed my life is ‘if it will take less than two minutes, do it now.’ It will do wonders to what you will get done throughout the day. If you are a procrastinator like me you will be amazed at what a stress reliever this can be if you stick to it.” — Uncle_Jesse1989
“Before you leave your kitchen to eat/drink whatever you just made, put everything away you just took out.” — sabineastroph
“Don’t rely on motivation. Motivation is unreliable. Practice discipline.” — Sarastrasza
“Write. Shit. Down. (Somewhere you’ll see it later.) Changed my life.” — Logicalsky
“Every day, strive to make your situation just a little bit better than it was the day before – clean something in your house, do some physical activity, read something you’d like to be more knowledgeable in, start learning a new work skill, run an errand, etc. Literally anything productive. Even just the smallest increment of the task… 5 minutes, whatever… I’m not talking about committing a ton of time every day right off the bat. Start with easy stuff, and by getting in a habit of doing this practice everyday, you’ll develop a kind of discipline, and every day your life gets a tiny bit better. Eventually you’ll either ‘get caught up’ to a place where you feel content, or you begin to feel more motivated to achieve more on a daily basis.” — dentttt
“Getting adequate sleep. A lot of people put off sleep in order to fit in everything they have to do for the day. I find that when I get enough sleep each night I am more clear headed and can manage my time well enough to get everything done even though I have fewer waking hours in the day.” — zzzzzzzzzz7
“Daily To-Do lists. Knowing there is stuff to do makes you wake up sooner, be more productive, and accomplish more than you would have otherwise!” — 55North
“Exercise, to optimize brain function. Exercise makes everything in life better. Exercise makes stress more tolerable, sleep deeper, memory more adept, and puts a glow on the rest of life. Exercise is the basic starter pack towards self-esteem, self-control, and emotional regulation.” — lemineftali
