Conversation comes easy to some of the zodiac. They could talk to pretty much anyone, from strangers to best friends, and never run out of things to say. Then there are these four zodiac signs. If you’re one of these people, you struggle to make small talk or your listening skills could use some work. Here’s why you need to work on your communication skills, and what you can do to make them better.

Aries

It’s not that you aren’t exciting to talk to. You’re a pretty good listener and can get into deep conversations well into the night. But it’s the little stuff you trip up on. To you, small talk is a boring chore. Answering the standard “Where are you from? What do you do?” questions makes you want to off yourself. You’d rather skip ahead and act like you’re already best friends. Unfortunately, that’s not always how it works. Sometimes it’s the small talk that warms people up to a conversation. Without it, you might be a tad too overwhelming to the people you’re talking to. Brush up on your small talk, babe. It won’t kill you.

Taurus

Your listening skills could use some work. Because you feel awkward in conversations–especially when they’re with someone you barely know–you spend more of your time thinking of what to say next than actually listening to the person. You don’t want to say the wrong thing, so every word is picked carefully. Unfortunately, this split focus can sometimes come across like you don’t care about the person. In reality, you care so much about how you look that your anxiety turns you inward. Remember that it’s better to stay engaged than to get what you say next “exactly right.” There’s no such thing.

Virgo

When anyone brings up the concept of small talk, you ask, “What’s the point?” To you, it seems like a complete waste of time to discuss the weather with a stranger on an elevator who you’ll probably never see again anyway. This makes you come off a bit rude and unfriendly, which you might not even mind. But here’s the thing: You could be missing out on experiences or people who could shape your life in an incredible way. Small talk opens doors that would otherwise stay closed. The next time someone random wants to talk about the weather, humor them.

Aquarius

You always have so many things going on that conversations often feel like a waste of time for you. Small talk, deep conversations, it doesn’t matter. You’ll always have something on your mind completely irrelevant to the person in front of you that will keep you from being a truly good listener or conversationalist. If you want to get better at this, try to be more present. Whenever your latest project or problem at work pops into your head, table it for when you aren’t sitting across from someone.
