5 Concrete Signs You’re Trying To Make The Wrong Relationship Work

You donโ€™t want to end up with the wrong person because you were too stubborn to admit that the relationship wasnโ€™t working. Even though you might love this person wholeheartedly, they might not be the best fit for you. They might not be your path toward a true happily ever after. Here are some signs youโ€™re trying hard to make the wrong relationship work:

You are ignoring (huge) problems and pretending they donโ€™t exist.

You should feel comfortable coming to each other with problems. After all, if youโ€™re meant to be together, then you should be able to come to solutions that will make you both happy. You should end up strengthening your relationship with these talks, not weakening it. If youโ€™re terrified to bring up problems, it might be because you know there isnโ€™t a great solution, or that your partner will be unwilling to compromise with you. You might be putting off these talks because you know they will lead to a breakup if you acknowledge them.

Youโ€™re constantly giving up what you want in order to make them happy.

And theyโ€™re never returning the favor. It doesnโ€™t matter if these are small things, like which movies youโ€™re seeing, what music is playing in the car, and what youโ€™re eating for dinner every night. If you continuously give them what they want, and never get what you want in return, youโ€™re eventually going to resent them. Remember, there should be give and take in a partnership. It shouldnโ€™t be all take.

Youโ€™re changing your vision of the future to align with theirs.

Thereโ€™s nothing wrong with changing over time. Your dreams wonโ€™t always look the same as you grow older. Your stance on whether you want to get married or have children or work in a certain field could naturally evolve. However, you donโ€™t want to intentionally change your vision of the future because youโ€™re feeling pressured by your partner. You donโ€™t want to sacrifice dreams you still secretly have because you know thereโ€™s no way to have them and this person at the same time. If your partner doesnโ€™t want the same things you want, then you both owe it to each other to leave. You both deserve to have your dreams fulfilled, not just one of you.

Everyone around you has been skeptical of your love.

You donโ€™t need anyone elseโ€™s approval. Whether you want to be with someone or not is your own choice in the end. However, if the people who know you the best arenโ€™t able to understand why youโ€™re dating a certain someone, you might want to hear what they have to say. Maybe theyโ€™re seeing something you canโ€™t โ€” or something you donโ€™t want to admit is true.

You are constantly making excuses for them.

Even though you would consider certain behaviors a dealbreaker when it came to anyone else, you are giving this person the benefit of the doubt over and over again because your feelings for them are so strong. You are giving them constant second chances you wouldnโ€™t afford to anyone else. You are always making excuses for their behavior because you so badly want this relationship to work.
