No reasonable person likes feeling harmed, betrayed, deceived, or insulted. But some people are able to effortlessly shrug off life’s innumerable indignities like the proverbial water rolls off a duck’s back.
Others, however, are not so quick to forgive and forget. Both salty and sour in their disposition, they think that forgiveness is for fools and that forgetting is for amnesiacs. They walk through life with a chip on their shoulder and a bitter taste in their mouths. They are the most prone to shunning, ghosting, and holding eternal grudges.
Here are the four zodiac signs most likely to hold onto spite and refuse to let it go.
1. Cancer
A water sign—meaning that they are the most hyper-emotional softies in the zodiac and are prone to letting the tears flow until they find themselves dehydrated and entombed in a pillar of salt—the Crab is, despite its hard exterior, the sign most likely to experience very high highs and extremely low lows. They will succumb to “the feels” at the slightest instigation. But if they think, rightly or wrongly, that you have crossed them, they will retreat into their shell and never come out. Cancer is the most unfortunately named of all the zodiac signs, and I hope I’m not out of line by stating that many medical experts think that harboring negativity and resentment is a leading cause of cancer—the disease, not the zodiac sign.
2. Leo
A fire sign symbolized by the Lion and ruled by the sun, Leos will always be the most arrogant egomaniacs on the block. Because of their fierce and almost cartoonishly exaggerated sense of pride and their incurable need for universal respect, they treat even the slightest sign of mockery or betrayal as a mortal wound that must be avenged. And have no doubt—avenge it they will. They could be the most popular, wealthiest, and most admired person in the world, but late at night they’re tossing and turning in bed, stricken with insomnia again because of that bully who made fun of them in gym class.
3. Virgo
For better or worse—sometimes better, but mostly worse—Virgos are the zodiac’s born perfectionists. They set standards so high for themselves that even they need a telescope to see them. It’s nice to have standards for oneself, but Virgos also apply their impossible standards to everyone else, which means they exist in a constant state of disappointment. Purity-spiraling their way into perpetual nausea and dizziness, they are overthinkers who will read far more into what you said than what you intended. And even if you didn’t mean to insult them, they may take it as an insult and cross your name out of their Book of Life.
4. Scorpio
A water sign—meaning they are emotional to the point where it often becomes annoying—the Scorpion is also a fixed modality, which makes them unwilling to meet people halfway. It’s their way or the highway, and if you don’t like that arrangement, don’t let door hit you on your way out of their life. They hold onto grudges like a drowning person holds onto a life preserver, especially if they’ve caught you in a lie. And it isn’t so much the lie itself—which may have been something trivial and harmless—it’s the fact that they feel they can never trust you again.
