‘Cobwebbing’ Is A New Dating Trend That Actually Doesn’t Suck
When you hear the phrase “new dating trend,” often you’re prepared to hear about some toxic new way we’re killing love. And you can’t be blamed for that. With modern dating trends such as ghosting, soft ghosting, cookie-jarring, and more, it’s fair to assume that no emerging dating trend could possibly be a positive thing. But alas, finally, there is a new dating trend that doesn’t suck and it’s called “cobwebbing.”
Coined by the dating app Bumble, cobwebbing refers to removing the relics of past relationships that could be holding you back from moving on and finding someone new. As Dr. Caroline West told Mashable, “By actively ‘cobwebbing’ your environment of the past, you can then move forward feeling more empowered, confident and open to meeting someone new.”
Cobwebbing could be as simple as deleting an old flame’s number and text messages. It could be going through old matches on your dating apps and unmatching anyone who hasn’t shown potential or hurt you in some way. Cobwebbing also refers to clearing out physical items such as old letters, clothing, coffee mugs, or any other objects that remind you of your ex.
Heartbreak, breakups, and dating will never be easy. However, cobwebbing is a great way to start taking your power back and approach dating with an empowered mindset and open heart. It’s truly an act of self-love.
