Me, You, And All The Things I Want To Do
I want to sit with a lover on the summer grass that is long and wild with dandelions and drink wine and eat olives and expensive cheese as the sun sets. I want us to tell each other stories that we have been waiting our whole lives to tell each other, stories of all of the lives we have lived before our beating hearts arrived in front of one another on that lush summer grass.
I want us to stumble back home hazy on love and wine and the milkiness of the sunset. We’ll make pasta and chop veggies slowly and simmer garlic in olive oil and dance with bare feet on the kitchen tile. We’ll have conversation about things we haven’t had conversation about in so long that feel like a deep fucking sigh of relief. Conversation that feels like a deep knowing of yes, somebody gets it. Somebody gets me.
After dinner, I want us to cozy under blankets as warm summer rain falls and lightning strikes and the sounds of cars on wet city streets roll in through the open windows. I’ll fall asleep in your arms and in the middle of the night when I wake up to pee, I’ll pause before going back to sleep to look at you and smile.
In the morning, we’ll be in no rush. We’ll half wake up at 9 but make love at least once before waking up fully. I’ll stay in bed and read, and you’ll run out to get us coffee because I really wanted an oat milk latte from my favorite place on the corner instead of pour over that morning. You’ll bring it to me in bed when you’re back and I’ll tell you about the book I’m reading. I’ll try to persuade you to get back into bed, but instead you’ll go to the kitchen and fry cage free eggs and roast tomatoes and sauté mushrooms and onion and warm up fresh sourdough with avocado. We’ll eat and spill and laugh our asses off and maybe after all of that we’ll make love one more time, but maybe we’ll just cuddle and talk and buzz from our lattes. I’ll put my hand on your heart and listen to the deepest parts of it.
It will be time for us both to get some work done and tend to our daily obligations, so we’ll say goodbye, and you’ll spend the rest of the day doing the things that make you you, and I’ll spend the rest of the day doing the things that make me me, warm from each other’s love.
