If I Fall In Love With You, I Hope You Stay
They say love is meant to be easy, but the truth is, it is not. Love is complicated and painful at times. Love is confusing and sometimes heartbreaking. However, if there’s something that love has always been, it’s that it’s always been worth it. Love is always worth fighting for and suffering for. Love is always worth the wait. “Love is beauty even in its madness.” Love is what we live for. Love is the reason we exist. Maybe love is meant to be easy, but even when it’s not, love is always worth it.
So, believe me when I say loving me will not be easy, and loving you wouldn’t be either. I’ll need a lot of reassurance, and I know you’ll need it too, even if you don’t say it. You overthink a lot and have trouble falling asleep, but guess what? I do too. Loving me will test your patience, and loving you will test mine. You will not believe everything I say most of the time, and I will not believe yours either. You’ve been burned a couple of times before, so trusting me wouldn’t be easy. You have your walls up, and I have my guard up.
Loving me will challenge you, and loving you will challenge me. Loving me could break your heart, and loving you could break mine. Loving me will reveal a different side of you, and loving you will also show a different side of me. Loving me could bring out the worst and best in you, and loving you could bring out the worst and best in me.
So, know that if I fall in love with you and you fall in love with me, it will not be easy. It will not be a walk in the park—maybe at first, but rather a roller coaster ride with ups and downs. It will not be a fairytale with a cliché happy ending because fairytales do not exist, but ours does. Yes, it will not be easy, as I have said a hundred times, but damn, it will be worth it.
We will fight, but we will also learn to communicate. We will be more patient and understanding. We will learn to trust and believe that this time is different. We will share our greatest fears and our wildest dreams. We will bring our walls and guards down. We will share stories we have never shared before. We will laugh a little louder and smile a little wider. We will learn a lot of things from each other. You will teach me how to cook, and I will teach you how to manage finances. Our similarities and differences, as well as our strengths and weaknesses, will be revealed. In time, we will learn to compromise.
We will grow together. We will go to places we have never been before. We might get lost, but at least we will get lost together, and eventually, we will find our way back. We will watch movies that will make us cry and laugh. We will listen to music in our cars and sing our hearts out in concerts across the globe. We will do ordinary and mundane things. We will experience life and grow old together, as we’re supposed to.
When the time comes that we are old and gray, sipping our coffee on a cold winter night, we will both look back and laugh as we reminisce about our wild youth and realize that love is like a sentence—sometimes simple, complex, and compound.
So, if I fall in love with you, I hope you stay.
