The Privilege (2022)

If You Liked ‘Dark’ Watch ‘The Privilege,’ Netfix’s New Horror Movie

Let’s face it, German Netflix originals have been killing it the last few years. Case in point, Dark. The spooky time-travel thriller left fans guessing with each episode, like Stranger Things meets Lost sprinkled with hot German actors. Well, if you liked Dark, you might like Netflix’s new original horror movie, The Privilege. It’s a creepy German movie featuring a wild plot and lots of cast crossover from Dark. The opening scene alone will have you checking under your bed.

The Privilege starts with young Finn left home alone with his older sister Anna. He’s playing video games in the living room when the power goes out. Soon, a spooky presence enters the home and attacks Anna. She grabs Finn and they head for the car, but the dark and twisted entity isn’t done with them, and it leads to tragedy on top of a massive dam.

Max Schimmelpfennig as Finn in The Privilege

Years later, Finn is still struggling to understand that night. He tries to have a normal life with his best friend Lena and his twin sister Sophie at their elite boarding school, but he still sees the dark entity. Is it all in his head? Is something really out to get him, his sister, and his friends? His parents and doctor have him on a new drug to help him cope with his past trauma. Maybe that will help.

You might recognize two of the cast. In the middle, Max Schimmelpfennig plays Finn. He also played Young Noah in Dark. On the left is Lea van Acken, who plays Finn’s friend Lena. She also played “Girl from the Future” in Dark.

Much like Dark, things aren’t what they seem in The Privilege. Both have a similar uneasy atmosphere and plenty of mysteries to unfold. I don’t want to give anything away–you’ll just have to see this one for yourself. Catch this on Netflix.
