Sometimes Love Is A Quiet Moment Of Feeling

The first time he told me he loved me, I was in the kitchen peeling sweet potatoes. It felt like such a mundane, yet marvelous, moment to tell me this, but he did it anyway and it was the most beautiful feeling I’ve ever felt in return.

I believe that love is about the quiet moments. To love and be loved in return — sometimes, that can be quite simple. The thing is, telling someone you love them doesn’t always have to be this extraordinary thing. It doesn’t always have to be grand gestures and big moments that make the heart flutter. A this-is-what-I’ve-been-waiting-for kind of moment.

It’s the shivers down my spine when I feel his fingers tucking strands of hair behind my ear because he knows it eases my anxiety. It’s falling asleep together and realizing our bodies have separated in the night but we are still holding hands anyway.

It’s the way he looks at me while I read, the feeling I get in my chest knowing he’s looking at me while I read, and smiling. It’s being close in a small kitchen, making dinner, and singing whatever song was stuck in our heads that day.

Love doesn’t always have to be a shout-from-the-rooftops kind of passion. Sometimes love is simple. It’s just a quiet moment of feeling.
