They’re Not Your Forever Person If The Relationship Is One-Sided
Your person should be contributing to the relationship in as many ways as you do. They shouldn’t expect you to do all the work while they simply sit back and relax and enjoy your company. They should be planning dates and coming up with conversation topics too. They should be surprising you and supporting you too.
If the effort is only coming from one side of the relationship, then it’s never going to last. One person can’t do all the work. It’s not sustainable. And you shouldn’t want it to be. No matter how much you love this person, they aren’t worth exhausting yourself over. They aren’t worth the tears and frustration. You deserve someone who is going to rise above and beyond your expectations. Someone who is going to make you feel valued and appreciated.
If you’re the only person putting effort into the relationship, something needs to change. Either you have to sit them down and have a serious chat or you need to walk away – but the answer isn’t to stay. It’s not to wait and see whether they magically change at some point in the future. If they’re treating you poorly today, then that’s all you need to know.
They’re not your forever person if the effort is one-sided because relationships aren’t always a breeze. There are going to be tough moments. There are going to be times when you hit a low point. And you should trust that your partner will be there to support you and encourage you and help you feel better again. After all, if your partner is only around when things are happy, they aren’t a real teammate. You need someone who will stick by you through it all. Someone who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty and do some work.
They’re not your forever person if the effort is one-sided because your person should care about the relationship as much as you care. They should be taking steps to ensure that the relationship last. They should be doing whatever it takes to make you happy, the same way that you do for them. If you’re the only person contributing in a meaningful way, then you’re going to grow to resent them if you don’t already. You aren’t going to be happy in a relationship where you’re doing all the work, where you’re not receiving nearly as much as you’re offering in return.
You deserve a relationship that feels equal. A partner who feels like a teammate. A love that doesn’t leave you stressing. Remember, it’s not your responsibility to plan every date and lead every conversation. Your person should be doing their fair share. They should be taking responsibility. They shouldn’t be forcing you to do all the hard work.
A strong relationship requires both partners to put in effort. Not one. Real love should never feel one-sided. You should never have to question whether this person actually cares. Their feelings should be apparent based on their actions, based on how they treat you every single day.
