The Vegas Hotel Deaths No One Wants You To Know About

We’ve all heard the phrase, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” While we all know that’s not necessarily true, there are things that stay quiet in Vegas – deaths in casinos and hotels. Tik Toker, Paulette, @modernizedthoughts brought this subject to light for those who aren’t aware of this disturbing fact.

Scary Statistics Unknown To Most

Paulette explains in her video how Vegas hotels handle crimes and deaths on their property, and why it’s unlikely you’ll ever hear about most of them. She said, “These crimes will happen at hotel rooms and they are not well known because they want you to believe their hotel rooms are safe.” If people start thinking it’s not safe, they will stop traveling there and the city will lose money. No one in the tourism industry wants that, so a lot of facts stay as quiet as possible.

Statistically Speaking

According to a 2015 article on casino.org, 99% of what happens in a hotel or casino stays in the hotel or casino. Law enforcement, journalists, and hotel staff are all complicit. “Just about everybody’s in on it, because if you freak people out, the thinking goes, they might not visit.” The statistics are scary. According to the Clark County Coroner’s Office there were 40 million visitors in Vegas in 2014. Approximately 1,100 visitors die while visiting Vegas each year. Out of those deaths, 67% are the result of an accident, 15% died by suicide, 11% were victims of a homicide, and the remaining percentage had no cause of death determined.

Now For the Creepy Details

When someone dies in a Vegas hotel room, hotel staff relocate the dead body to a different area of the hotel. (Side thought: is ‘moving a dead body’ listed somewhere in the job description?) This is to avoid the mandatory two-week quarantine of the hotel room if authorities find out someone died in the room. Because that equates to a loss of income for the hotel, they avoid that at all costs. “Just try and find a single media story about anyone dying of natural causes in a Las Vegas hotel room, ever,” the article stated.

Declaring Death Elsewhere

Paulette explained that not only do the hotels move the body, they also have an ambulance pick up the body to take it to the hospital where the death is officially declared. If it’s a crime scene and police need to be called to investigate, the hotel can’t avoid the room being quarantined for two weeks. This is why the hotel will call for the ambulance immediately so there’s a better chance of the death being declared at the hospital and not in the room. Two weeks in quarantine means a loss of income, and no one wants to lose money in Vegas, not even the hotel.

More Disturbing Facts

According to the article, when a hotel guest dies, the hotel comps the room. But it’s not the same if they died by suicide and it resulted in any damage to the property. In that case, the hotel will bill the family for damages. With suicides being very common in Vegas, this is something that happens more than anyone really knows. Journalists do not talk about these deaths because crossing a hotel in Vegas means being blacklisted, which would result in not being able to do their jobs properly.
