Music taste is personal, so personal in fact that some psychological research has even found that your favorite music genre has ties to certain personality traits.

In a study with around 36,000 people, participants were asked to rate 104 types of music, as well as complete Big 5 Personality inventories and give details about their favorite music. The researchers found a correlation between personality and music preferences. They noted that individual differences also play a role.

People who primarily listen to pop music exhibit extroversion, honesty, and conventionalism. Pop lovers were also found to have high self-esteem and were hardworking.

Rap

Rap enthusiasts have high self-esteem. They also have a tendency to be more outgoing than people who prefer other types of music.

Country

Country fans are associated with being hardworking, conventional, outgoing, and conservative. They were also found to be less open to new experiences.

Rock

Those who love rock music are linked to being creative, gentle, and rather introverted. They also score lower in regards to self-esteem.

Indie

Indie folks showed signs of introversion and creativity. They also were found to be intellectual and anxious.
