Where To See The Northern Lights On 6/25: The Aurora Borealis Might Be Visible In These 14 US States

Did you miss seeing the northern lights last week? Have no fear—this week, they’re supposed to be visible in even more US territories, thanks to upcoming geometric storm.

The National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration is forecasting a moderate storm peaking at a Kp index of 5.67 on the evening of June 25. If you’re lucky, you might just get a glimpse of this celestial phenomenon—specifically if you live in one of these 14 US states:

  • Alaska
  • Minnesota
  • North Dakota
  • Montana
  • Maine
  • Michigan
  • Wisconsin
  • Vermont
  • New Hampshire
  • Washington
  • Oregon
  • Idaho
  • New York
  • South Dakota

Of course, there are still many factors that might impede their visibility, such as light pollution (especially since the sun sets later, thanks to the summer solstice), proximity (if you’re farther North, you’re likely to have more luck), and even just luck, given the unpredictability of these storms. But if you live in one of these states and are hoping to get a good view of the aurora borealis, now is the time to start planning.
