You push yourself to the brink of exhaustion because you have big, lofty goals for yourself. Even though it’s great that you’re putting effort into your dreams, you need to be gentle with yourself. You can’t punish yourself whenever you fail to meet your ridiculously large expectations for the day. It’s okay if you aren’t as productive today as you were yesterday. Some days are going to be easier than others. If you’re always pissed at yourself when you fall below your own expectations, then you’re going to live a miserable life. It’s entirely possible to work hard and push yourself without doing it a dangerous amount. Remember, without some self-care, you’re going to burn out. And when that happens, you won’t get anything done at all.
You are passionate and obsessive. Once you put your mind to something, you have trouble focusing on anything else. Your intense concentration can be a blessing – but it can also be a weakness. You don’t want to end up so wrapped up in one project that you lose sight of everything else in your life that matters. If you ignore all of the other things that make you happy in the name of pursuing this one path, then you’re going to burn yourself out. You need to find a healthy balance. Work hard, but give yourself time to relax, too.
You want to be the best at everything. You’re a perfectionist, so you might spend hours on a seemingly simple task that would only take others a few minutes. While it’s wonderful that you put so much energy into even the smallest decisions, there’s a point when you have to walk away. When you have to realize that nothing you do is ever going to be good enough for yourself, so you might as well call it a day. After all, you don’t want to sweat the small stuff. Try not to overthink little choices that won’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Try to be kinder to yourself.
You like to keep busy. If you sit still for too long, you start getting restless. Even though there’s nothing wrong with hopping from project to project, you should take some breaks in between. Don’t keep going and going or you’re going to get exhausted. Rest might feel like a waste of valuable time, but really, it’s prepping you for what comes next. Taking care of yourself is never a bad thing. It’s a necessary step to completing all of the things you’re hoping to accomplish throughout the year.
You aren’t superhuman – but you certainly act like you are. You pretend that you don’t need sleep, that you can exist on coffee and energy drinks, btu that is not true. You’re a human who needs rest and attention. You don’t want your whole life to be about work. Even though you value productivity, there’s value in friendships and relationships, too. You can’t forget about the people who matter to you because you’re more worried about your career. Balance is important. If you want to reach success, you need people you can lean on, people who will calm you down and cheer you up when work isn’t go so well.
