Sometimes The Best Love Stories Aren’t About Romance At All

Not all love stories are about romance. Sometimes romance even blinds us for witnessing the love that is present in our life. Sometimes we get so busy searching for the one, we forget that another kinda love is even possible. Sometimes the rose-colored glasses of a hot new romance blind us from seeing the love that’s already around us. The love that is already within us.

Not all love stories have to be about romance. Maybe right now you don’t need the wild rollercoaster kinda love that leaves you so high you forget how it feels to have your feet steady on the ground. Maybe right now you need a grounded love that holds you softly and knows every letter of your story. The kind of love that takes years of significant insignificant moments to build.

Not all love stories show up as romance. Some come as a spontaneous smile to a stranger or in the embrace of your best friend. Even in its platonic state, a love story is a love story, even in its endings. Because sometimes love is about endings. About being brave enough to let go, because love not only brings people together, love also stays when we’re apart. Even if that means forever.

Not all love stories are romantic. In fact, some of the best ones are about friends, family, and strangers. About the love we weren’t looking for, the love we didn’t expect to take a certain color or shape, but the love that comes with the sole wish to connect without expecting anything in return. But most of all the best love stories are about self-love. About the deep breath that fills every cell of your being with your presence the way only you can show up for yourself, the way only you can love yourself. The best love stories are not about romance, but about the courage to fall in love with yourself, the courage to speak out loud, “I love myself unconditionally.”
