What Every Zodiac Sign Needs To Hear Before January 1

Aries

You can miss someone and know they don’t belong in your life. You can remember the good times fondly but recognize that they cannot change the bad. Life is complex—people are complex—but at the end of the day, it’s important for you to do what’s best for yourself, and sometimes that means letting go of someone who once brought positive energy into your life.

Taurus

Sometimes you’re the one who’s wrong. Instead of trying to twist the argument so that you appear to be the winner or trying to justify your position, just accept that you can’t—and won’t—always be right. It doesn’t make you weak or stupid, it makes you human—and being able to admit that to others will actually make them respect you more, because believe it or not, people will lose faith in you if you insist that you always know better.

Gemini

When someone shows you who they are, believe them. People have a tendency to act in patterns—if they do something once, there’s a decent chance that it isn’t the first time they’ve done it and it likely won’t be the last. It’s okay to forgive people, and it’s fine to give second chances, but go into these situations understanding who (and what) you’re dealing with.

Cancer

Not everything will end happily, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth it in the meantime. We have the tendency to assume that something is only successful if it’s long lasting in a positive capacity. But the truth is that sometimes the most beautiful things in our life are short-lived, and sometimes they leave heartbreak in their wake, and that’s okay. Sometimes the reason things end so painfully is because the beginning—and everything in between—were so wonderful. Don’t wish away the good to avoid the bad.

Leo

Solitude doesn’t have to be lonely. Sometimes we learn the most important things about ourselves when we’re left to our own devices. Who are you when you aren’t forced to perform for others? What would you be doing if you didn’t have to listen to anyone else’s input? What can you accomplish when no one else is there to tell you how to do it? Instead of avoiding these moments, embrace them—they might become one of the most treasured uses of your time.

Virgo

You don’t need a deep reason to enjoy things. You don’t have to justify why certain things bring you joy, and you don’t have to limit yourself to hobbies that feel productive. You’re allowed to have fun just because, and if someone doesn’t get it, it’s not your job to make them. Life becomes so much more enjoyable when you stop performing for others (or yourself) and just let yourself explore the things that make you happy.

Libra

Your value isn’t based on what you can do for others. You have a way of convincing yourself that your worthiness is tied to the people you help, the lives you change, the friends who choose you. Don’t get me wrong, choosing to do the altruistic thing is always admirable, but you are more than how you relate to the people around you. You are lovable—and valuable—even if you have nothing to offer anyone else.

Scorpio

Sometimes before you can forgive someone else, you have to work on forgiving yourself. Because you may not be surprised at other people’s capacity to hurt or disappoint you, but you may have a hard time accepting that you allowed yourself to be vulnerable enough to be hurt—and you may criticize yourself for being “naive” or “weak.” Please don’t be harder on yourself than you have to be. You did the best you could do with the information you had—and it does not make you weak to trust, to hope, to believe that someone will try to do the best for you, too.

Sagittarius

Good things take time—be patient with your progress. You have a tendency to jump headfirst into things, which can be admirable, but the problem is that sometimes you expect the result just as quickly. But you cannot rush life, and there is rarely a good shortcut to success—you simply must take the necessary steps and allow the rest to fall into place. Just because it’s not happening not right doesn’t mean it never will.

Capricorn

Preparing for the worst doesn’t actually make the worst any easier to deal with. In fact, preparing for the worst might make it doubly bad, because not only are you left to deal with the unfortunate end result but you also spent your time stressing about it in advance. Ask yourself if pessimism has actually ever made a difficult situation any easier—and then consider the ways it has actually hurt you (or those around you).

Aquarius

The only moment you have control over is the present. While the past is good to learn from, there’s no point in beating yourself up over the things you can’t change; and while the future is a good thing to build toward, we will never be able to predict what will happen. All we can do is use those lessons to help guide us to where we want to go—and that means doing the best we can right here, right now.

Pisces

The best things in life are rarely the “perfect” things. They’re the loves that sometimes drive you a little crazy, the moments that didn’t go how you expected but ended up memorable nonetheless, the lessons you didn’t expect to learn but that found their way to you nonetheless. You could spend your whole life aiming for the perfect things that likely don’t exist, but if you do, you’ll miss out on all of those wonderfully imperfect things that are already in your life.
