This Is How You Gain Clarity When You Feel Out Of Touch With Your Life

We’re all looking for clarity in one way or another—it’s what builds the framework of our life. It gives you a clear pathway to travel and it helps you to recognize the much larger context of your existence. Without it, you can feel lost and disconnected. This is because the opposite of having clarity as your foundation is having confusion as your foundation, which is a very hard space to navigate out of.

Clarity, just like any other desired feeling, is available to you at every moment. You just need to understand how to access it—and that is exactly what I’m here to teach you.

A principle I live by in my life is that it is more important to be releasing than acquiring. It can be easy to reach for more things to solve your problems, but most of the time what is actually needed is for you to release the things that are blocking you from what you desire.

Same goes for clarity. In life we are surrounded by different perspectives, opinions, ways of thinking and living, beliefs, and mindsets—and it’s a part of our unique purpose to sift through that noise and find the things that sit with our truth. I believe that is a constant aspect in this journey of life: continuously sifting and releasing that which no longer aligns with us and tuning back into our truth.

The thing that makes clarity feel so out of reach at times is the volume of noise you’re allowing in your life.

Noise can come in many forms. It can be from the voices in society, from outside pressures and standards; noise can be your own inner critic and fears; noise can be the beliefs and set of internal rules you picked up from childhood; noise can be from absorbing too much information too frequently (social media). At the end of the day, noise is the influx of outside influences that are distracting you from living in full alignment with your truth (your soul’s purpose).

Especially in the information era that we currently live in, there is so much noise! Having access to so much so immediately has immense benefits to us, but just like anything there are 2 sides to it and it can also push us further away from accessing our own clarity and truth. This is because we become so used to tuning out of ourselves to tune into others. But in order to have clarity in your life, you must tune into yourself.

So where do you start?

1. Turn down the volume of noise.

Time to declutter that internal fog. It’s hard to see your truth when you’re so consumed with everyone else’s. One of the most practical ways to do this is through a social media detox. It’s an incredible way to cultivate a deeper connection with yourself, therefore giving you more access to more clarity.

Start as big or as small as you feel called to. It can also be beneficial to do a clean sweep of who you follow and what is showing up on your feed. The mute button is a great feature that instagram has! In fact, every single person I follow is completely muted. I chose to do this after coming back from a nine month social media detox—I made it this way so that I have to manually click on people’s feeds in order to scroll (which takes way more effort and makes me think twice about what I choose to consume). It has helped my clarity and inner peace immensely. Remember, the goal is to release the blocks (noise) so that you can open up more space for what you truly desire (clarity).

2. More stillness with self.

When doing something like a social media detox it’s also very important to have other beneficial things that fill your time. Because trust me when I say it is so easy to just find another distraction or more noise! That’s where cultivating more stillness with self comes in. This will be the greatest practice you ever take on. If you’re someone that avoids any alone time, then this is especially for you.

Stillness Practices I recommend:

✽ Nature walks

✽ Meditation

✽ Puzzles

✽ Journaling

✽ Any form of art (drawing, painting, etc)

✽ Yoga

✽ Dancing (this is a somatic practice that cultivates a deeper connection to being in your body)

✽ Spending time with an animal

The way you experience life is not a reflection of your outside circumstances but a reflection of your internal reaction to those outside circumstances: thoughts, emotions, beliefs, expectations, etc.

Have you ever heard the quote “We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are” by Anaïs Nin? Well this is exactly right! If you are not aware of what’s going on within, then you will always feel like your life is out of control, tossing with the waves of circumstances and outside influences. But when you go within and cultivate awareness through a kind and compassionate relationship towards what’s happening underneath the surface, you unlock your inner calm.

You access this through strengthening your equanimity muscle—the capacity to remain calm in the midst of any storm. Just like any of your physical muscles, this is a muscle that can be strengthened through practice and time. And this is where the practice of mindfulness and stillness with self comes in. Mindfulness is ultimately about creating a kind environment to exist in and therefore creating an environment you can thrive in from the inside out. It’s not about pushing away thoughts or feelings that come up. It’s about learning how to soften your posture towards them. It’s an opportunity to change your relationship towards discomfort… aka life!

Once you turn down the volume of noise that surrounds you, this is an essential way to turn down the volume of noise that comes from within your own mind chatter.

3. Get clear on how you want to feel and go from there.

“Knowing how you want to feel is one of the most potent forms of clarity.” -Danielle Laporte

When in doubt, always return to this! We all have core desires in life. Most of which are probably very similar.. to feel love, connection, belonging, peace, joy, freedom, safety, abundance… those are just a few you may desire. It’s important to get clear on these for yourself. Whenever I talk about goal-setting, I talk about your “desires behind your desires”—this is the core desired feelings behind the external things you want in life. At the end of the day we are all chasing things in order to feel a certain way. Want money? You might actually be after security and abundance. Want friends or a partner? You might actually be after connection and love. Want to change your appearance? You might actually be after acceptance and belonging. Want a house you can call home? You might actually be after safety and peace.

We often feel bogged down with confusion because we’re too focused on the external things that we neglect to recognize the truth of what we’re after: feelings. So when you get clear on what you desire to feel in your life and what feelings are represented by those external goals you have, it can automatically give you more clarity. It also offers you immediate access to what you’re truly after because every emotion is available here and now, you just need to understand how to access them. (Revert back to step 2 because mindfulness is the foundation to accessing every core desired emotion in the present moment.)

When we take more moments of pause to tune into our heart, guidance comes. Clarity does not emerge when we think harder, plan more, and analyze our life. Clarity comes when we strip it back, when we focus on releasing rather than acquiring and when we let go of all the noise that is drowning out our truth. The moment you step back from your thoughts and allow yourself space between yourself, the world, and your own mind chatter—that’s when you begin to have control of the volume, and that is when you start accessing a life of more clarity.
