There are 3 stages of limerence. The first stage is Attachment/Infatuation. During this stage, you’re uncovering each other’s personalities and developing an emotional connection. It’s attachment to this person, or rather, the idea of them, simply because you’re still getting to know them.

The second stage is Crystallization: white-hot passion and obsession. This is the love I’ve been waiting for my whole life. During this stage, you’re wearing rose-colored glasses and putting them in a box by choosing to ignore their worst traits and only looking at the good ones. It’s the halo effect–blinded by love.

The third stage is Deterioration. It’s when you abandon your morals and better judgment and make decisions based on the narrative you’ve created about them and your relationship.
