The 5 Types Of People You Should Never Date, According To A Relationship Coach

As relationship coaches work with their clients to help them in the dating world, theyโ€™re presented with the full breadth of humanity when it comes to love, sex, and relationships. In other words, they get to see some seriously weird behavior. They see all the mistakes people make and the subtle red flags that show the people who should be avoided. Luckily, a relationship coach shared on TikTok her 5 types of people to avoid when dating. Time to avoid these walking red flags!

Above, @tara.relationshipcoach shares what sheโ€™s learned over the years of being a relationship coach. From her experience, she lists out the five types of people who should be avoided at all costs. Some of these red flags are subtle. If you keep an eye out for the signs, youโ€™ll hopefully avoid dating one of these duds. Here are the people you should avoid:

1. Someone who follows a lot of sexy social media accounts.

They say itโ€™s not a big deal. And they make you feel like youโ€™re crazy and jealous for having a problem with it. Even if it doesnโ€™t mean theyโ€™ll cheat, filling their feed with unattainably beautiful people is a surefire way to feel like you never measure up. It feels like theyโ€™ll never be satisfiedโ€“that youโ€™ll never measure up.

2. Someone who has cheated on more than two partners.

Honestly, cheating on even one partner is an unforgivable deal breaker for most people, so itโ€™s interesting that Tara would specifically call out the double-cheater. But it could come down to deniability. If someone has only cheated on one partner, they can come up with ways to justify it. Maybe the relationship was bad, maybe they felt trapped. But if it happened with a second partner? Thereโ€™s really no way to excuse that kind of behavior.

3. Someone who believes in being friends with all of their exes.

Being cordial is one thing, but itโ€™s naรฏve to think that you can be true friends after a breakup. Thereโ€™s history there. You shared things that no friends do. Are you actually friends, or are you holding onto someone for other reasons? While one or two exes-turned-friends can be fine, given the circumstances, insisting every ex should remain your friend is just weird.

4. Someone whoโ€™s against therapy or other 3rd-party help.

When one person in a partnership is unhappy and wants to get therapy, itโ€™s a super huge red flag if the other refuses to get the help. Theyโ€™re prioritizing their happiness and pride over the comfort of their partner. Newsflash: No one is perfect, and everyone could benefit from a little therapy.

5. Someone who hasnโ€™t spent significant time alone as an adult.

Going from relationship to relationship, never being single, is a huge red flag. If someone would rather go right to a new relationship than spend one day single, it shows that theyโ€™re probably not choosing people they actually like. They might not like you for youโ€“you might have just been there at the right time. And that doesnโ€™t feel good.
